A 19-year-old girl from Pune had sought help from the National Commission for Women to deal with her family, who have been ‘threatening to kill her’ for being involved in love with a lower caste boy.
Priyanka Shete wrote a letter to the NCW seeking help in registration of an FIR against her cousins and uncles. Following which, an FIR was registered against three people in the Pune’s Talegaon Dabhade police station.
“In the FIR, the 19-year-old Priyanka Shete has mentioned that her family has been threatening to kill her as she wants to get married to a person who belongs to a lower caste. We have registered an FIR against three people of her family and further investigation is underway,” police said.
The FIR has been registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 244 (wrongful confinement), 352 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication).
Shete had earlier also filed a plea seeking protection on May 3 through her lawyer Nitin Satpute.
