Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has said that such systems should be developed that can prevent accidents caused by the ammunition at the military installations. This could prevent the loss of lives and properties and also avoid such threats that may end up as a larger accident.
Rajnath Singh had instructed to develop a system to reduce the effects of such accidents. Chairman of Defense Research and Development Department, Dr. G. Satish Reddy and former Army Chief, led by Lieutenant General Phillip Compose, OFB, DGQA, DRDO members have constituted a workforce. He had reviewed the recommendations of these experts.
The Defense Minister emphasized that the security of soldiers and common people is very important. In the last decade, many weapons depots of the army have been caught in accidents. Statistics show that in the year 2000 there was a fierce fire in the OD of Bharatpur and in 2001, ammunition of millions of crores of ammunition was found in the OD of Pathankot and Ganganagar. Similarly, in the year 2002, there was a fire in Jodhpur’s OD.
At the same time, the CAD Pulgo OD was destroyed in the year 2005. In 2007, the OD of Kunduru and the OD of Panagadh in 2010 were on fire. This process continues today, due to which many thousand crore rupees have been ruined by the government and hundreds of soldiers and civilians have lost their lives.
The CAG itself, in its report, has been responsible for the lack of ammunition for some time before the Indian Army and has raised serious questions about the maintenance of ‘Gola Barud’. That is why the government is serious about this matter and has instructed to implement the recommendations of the workforce in a speedy manner.
