Following the acute water crisis in Chennai, the first train which carries water departed from the Jolarpettai railway station in the Vellore district on Friday.
The state government has decided to meet the water crisis and bring water from Vellore through rail wagons. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, E Palaniswami had announced that the water is being transported after proper ground checks and logistics being made into an account.
The train left with 50 wagons of water and is scheduled to reach Villivakkam near Chennai by 11.30 am.
The officials had started this work two weeks ago. They ensured proper arrangements were made to transport water from Jolarpet to Chennai through the train.
