Nation Remembers The First President

Today the nation celebrates 135th birth anniversary of its first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
President Ramnath Kovind paid floral tributes to the former Head of State.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered him as the person who has been inspiration to generations of Indians.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad was born in Zeradai in the district of Siwan, Bihar on December 3, 1883. He joined Indian National Congress in 1911 and joined Mahatma Gandhi in Champaran Satyagraha and Non Cooperation Movement. He became the President of Indian National Congress thrice. He was also elected the President of Constituent Assembly and later when the Constitution came into force he became the first President of Republic of India. He was the only President who got elected twice. He was awarded Bharat Ratna in 1962. He died on 28 February 1963 at the age of 79.
